Workplace Noise Assessments

Safety Management Solutions offers workplace noise assessments to comply with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.  The 2005 regulations replace the earlier 1989 regulations which had much lower limits, so many workplaces which previously came outside the scope of the Noise at Work regulations are now affected.

If you want to know whether you have any duties under the new regulations, a quick check can be done as part of a normal site visit.  If noise is an issue, then if necessary a detailed occupational noise assessment can be undertaken, either of the whole site or for identified ‘problem’ areas.

Environmental or nuisance noise assessments

Day or nighttime measurements can also be done where complaints are arising from nearby domestic properties.  Using the British Standard BS 4142:1997  Method for rating industrial noise affecting mixed residential and industrial areas, one can determine whether or not the factory noise is at such a level where complaints would be expected.

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) will normally use the results from a BS 4142 assessment to help them decide whether a statutory nuisance exists, and whether an Abatement Notice should be issued.
